Humanities and Social Sciences comprises twenty-two institutions: the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology, which includes the Departments of Archaeology, Biological Anthropology and Social Anthropology and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology; the Faculties of Economics, Education, History, Law and the Institute of Criminology; the Faculty of Politics, Psychology, Sociology and International Studies (PPSIS), which includes the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), the Departments of Sociology, Social and Developmental Psychology and the Centre for Family Research; the Departments of History and Philosophy of Science, including the Whipple Museum of the History of Science, and of Land Economy; the Centres of African Studies, Latin American Studies, South Asian Studies and the Development Studies Committee , including the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, the Leverhulme Centre for Human and Evolutionary Studies, the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research and the Mongolian and Inner Asia Studies Unit.
Acts as the co-ordinating body for this group, directing academic and financial planning, allocating resources and supporting its institutions.
Also maintains links with other related institutions, for example: the Centre for Research in Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), and the Centre for History and Economics.
